Rough Ashlar

The first time I heard about the Rough Ashlar,

I thought about the Taoist: pu (simplified Chinese: 朴; traditional Chinese: 樸; pinyin: pǔ, pú; Wade–Giles: p'u; the "uncarved block", which represents the "original nature."

In the symbolism of Freemasonry, you are told that you have to find the deeper meaning on your own.   Maybe this is it?   The Perfect Ashlar and the Rough Ashlar are one.
